What's a wardrobe gap?
Ever feel like you wear the same thing over and over again? Identify your wardrobe gaps and learn to strategically purchase to maximize your savings.
Do you ever feel like you’re constantly wearing the same thing?
If you have a tendency to find one thing they like and then buy it in every color; chances are, you are.
We often buy in our comfort zone and give little thought to the function it will offer to your personal and lifestyle needs. This results in a closet with the same shirt in every color, or different variations of a shirt in the same color.
Listen, everyone does it. But in order to achieve long-term closet contentment, there needs to be more intention involved in your clothing purchases.
This means identifying wardrobe gaps & purchasing strategically to maximize lifestyle and personal style functionality.
How to identify wardrobe gaps in your closet:
(1) Stop shopping.
You’re never going to know what you have if you keep hoping new items will solve your problem. Intentional purchases aren’t possible if you aren’t willing to be patient; great things take time. Refrain from shopping for a 3-6mo. period of time to get to know your personal style and explore the current function of your wardrobe; make a mood board and get inspired to create a dream boutique at home.
(2) Shop your closet.
Take time to stop shopping in the stores and start shopping your closet at home. This is where the magic happens. From your wardrobe at home, learn to identify new ways to wear old items and play with maximizing your wardrobe. This phase teaches us what we like & dislike about our current wardrobe and inspires us to commit to our personal style moving forward.
(3) Keep tabs.
As you shop your closet, keep tabs of a few things: what do you have too much of? what do you not have enough of? Is a certain aspect of your wardrobe oversaturated? Do you have a variety of colors and textures? What’s the functionality and versatility of your wardrobe long-term? This is where we will begin to itemize our wish list for our wardrobe.
(4) Confirm a conscious purchase.
When you’re ready to begin consciously consuming, it’s important to know slow and steady wins the race. Don’t just rush to check off those items on the list, confirm they’re a contributing piece to your collection by ideating three versatile ways to wear the new piece. From there, take time to slowly fill the wardrobe gap from a conscious brand that made the piece with intention for you to love it long term; this ensures quality over quantity in your capsule collection.
