'Tis the season... for transitional pieces
Can your wardrobe handle the various weather all seasons long? 5 ways to test it & a list of transitional staples to get you started.
Those late summer nights that start to get a little cooler or even the late-fall morning air that has an extra crispness to it; there’s nothing better than the end of one season and the beginning of another.
Transitional clothing refers to items that can seamlessly shift between those seasons, making them versatile and practical for various weather conditions. There’s a lot to consider if you’re unsure if your wardrobe stands the test of weather but here are a few easy ways to start assessing your wardrobes transition-ability to help you FALL ;) in love with your wardrobe this season.
Neutral Colors: No one wants to wear bright yellow all year round. Does your wardrobe have enough neutrals to match your various colored personality pieces? Consider the color palette of your wardrobe and if enough neutral staples are included to maximize your functionality and versatility between seasons.
Layer-ability: Layers are not only a great way to spice up an outfit, but critical for transitional times of the year. Does your wardrobe have various lightweight pieces that can be layered under, as well as cardigans/jackets/tops that can be put over, an outfit?
Fabric Options: What fabric selections are we working with in your wardrobe? Be sure to have various natural fabrics that are not too heavy or too light so they can suit warmer and cooler weather, these include cotton or lightweight knits.
Functionality: How functional is your wardrobe in one season? If it’s lacking functionality, it’s due in part because your wardrobe lacks versatility. Try finding pieces that can be worn to work/date night/family holiday all in one. Doing this alone will help you increase the number of transitional pieces in your wardrobe naturally as it will instill creative thought amongst your pieces.
Versatile Styles: This is for those that love buying one of something in every color- do you have enough style options in your wardrobe? Meaning, do you have a maxi dress, trousers, sweater, etc. that can be worn all year round? Some items will be season specific (and that’s okay) but the key is to try to maximize use by being strategic with the types of styles we fill our wardrobe with. For example, opt out of a repeat item in your wardrobe and replace it with something your wardrobe lacks entirely (opt extra jeans for a trench coat.)
