Stress Less When You Dress
Why getting ready is a struggle & how to make getting ready fun again.
For some, getting dressed is a simple task.
For others, it requires a whole planning process & team of friends to coordinate what the group is wearing out that night.
There are typically two main reasons people struggle getting dressed:
They are unsure of their personal style.
The clothes in their closet don’t excite them anymore.
Good news, these are pretty simple problems to solve; bad news is you can’t solve a problem if you don’t know it’s a problem. Most of the time, people don’t realize this is their issue because they’re dependent on knowing what other people are wearing to make their decision or they constantly add to their wardrobes without any true assessment before purchasing.
Stress Less When You Dress:
Simple ways to fall back in love with your wardrobe to make getting ready fun again.
Refresh + Reset
We like things that are pleasing to the eye; that’s why stores and boutiques get us more excited than the clothes we already own in our closets at home. Regardless of how much we actually like the clothes, it’s new, the clothes are folded all nice and neat, and it’s coordinated in a way that makes us feel cozy & comfortable; making us want to explore, spend time, and try on.
This is what you can do at your own home. Give your closet space a facelift and get yourself excited to spend time with your clothes. You can do this by going through your clothes, parting with the ones that no longer serve you & making the ones that make you feel your best more accessible.
Find New Looks
Let’s be honest; we get sick of our clothes when we feel like we’re wearing the same thing. We wear the same thing because we get stuck on autopilot in our routine and don’t feel the need to explore outside the box. It’s speculated that we wear 20% of our clothes 80% of the time; meaning 80% of our clothes are bench warmers. What the heck!
Making getting ready fun again can be as simple as getting to know and spending time with your clothes. Learn what you have but more importantly, learn how to wear what you have. Have any pieces you’re unsure of how-to style? I recommend ideating three different types of outfits: brunch with the girls, errands around town, and a date night. Get creative here; if you don’t think it doesn’t go together- it probably does!
Find Your Signature Style
As a longtime uniform girly, I had no personal style. My school days were spent in a uniform, and summers a bathing suit; what were normal people clothes? Not understanding and finding comfort in your personal style can make getting dressed really difficult, as you’re unsure of what is going to elevate the outfit and maximize your confidence, unleashing full confidence.
Explore your closet for what’s often referred to as your cartoon outfit; this is what you would wear if you could never change again. Explore your closet and create different outfits that exemplify the same ambience; this will be indicative of your personal style. From there, create a mood board of looks you’d like to incorporate into your daily lineup; look and see how you can recreate those from your current wardrobe.
