No New Clothes November
I'm halfway through my No-New Clothes November Challenge & here are (3) things I've learned.
This month, I’ve decided to start No New Clothes November- no new clothes for the entire month of November.
Which seems like a funny time to start, as the holiday season & deals roll in, why would I take a shopping hiatus? Some people would even argue that I’m losing money.
I honestly couldn’t think of a better time.
Most people justify what they’re buying, especially clothing, because of how cheap it is, or the discount being offered. How many times have you known people (maybe even yourself) to buy an excess amount of clothing, knowing they’re probably going to be returning more than half of it- but didn’t want to miss the deal?
Shopping doesn’t need to be like that & honestly it shouldn’t be. It’s not only a waste of time and money, but also probably negatively effecting your personal style & closet contentment.
3 Thing’s I’ve Learned from No New Clothes November
(So Far)
You have more than you think you do.
I don’t buy much to begin with, but taking a shopping break these past few weeks has really proved to me how much is already in my closet. I’ve made numerous new looks from things that have been in my closet for years, some that I was even getting ready to part with. Spending time focusing solely on what I have has really helped me not only identify key pieces in my wardrobe, but also how to make them more functional & versatile to get maximum use out of them. Despite the misconception, old clothes can make new outfits.
Less is more; slow & steady.
These past few weeks have really helped me not only appreciate everything I already have and help spark a new sense of creativity, but also has made me realize how little I need to truly complete my wardrobe. I was always a quality over quantity kind of gal, but now I’ve come to realize the strategy behind quality vs. quantity in a wardrobe. It’s not about more pieces, it’s about the right pieces.
Functionality is everything.
Shopping my closet these past few weeks, especially since I’m in a new city with a very different climate than I’m used to this time of year, has helped me appreciate clothing functionality. A perfect wardrobe’s composition balances personal style & lifestyle, this creates balance between functionality and versatility. If a piece is not functional, it is not worth the space it’s taking up.
