New Year, New You, New Wardrobe
5 things you should do in 2025 and 4 things to leave in 2024 to help you build the best wardrobe next year.
The new year is right around the corner. Have you made your new year’s resolution yet?
Well, for those of you looking to level up your wardrobe game, there are a few simple things you can do to start the year off right to achieve your dream wardrobe. Oftentimes, simple adjustments in behavior are all that’s needed to make you go from a wardrobe full of nothing to a wardrobe you’re happy to call yours.
The clothes in your closet are only part of the dressing equation. It’s the way we relate to and feel about our clothes that can add the extra oomf you’re in search of. So, this year, rather than buying your way to a new wardrobe, reconnect with what you already own and discover the gold mine that you already have.
Here’s a curated list of 4 things to leave in 2024 & 5 things to start doing in 2025 to level up your wardrobe for a more confident, unique you:
Leave:
Influencers.
Some are great, too many are overkill. Remember social media isn’t real, find a few influencers that share your style and values and leave the rest in 2024. Too many cooks spoil the soup; don’t let too many influencers derail you from your style goals. (I recommend finding 2-3 you really enjoy; following too many influencers can create unnecessary stress and pressure.)
Shopping Hauls.
HAULS AREN’T NORMAL (or healthy.) Excessive overconsumption of clothes is not only killing the planet, but also your style. Buying something in every color doesn’t give you a versatile wardrobe, it just creates more wardrobe clutter. 2025 is the year you stop buying clothes & start building a wardrobe.
Trends.
Let’s be honest, you don’t even like the half the trends that circulate. So instead of kowtowing to what’s “in” lean into your personal style and watch your styling confidence soar.
Other people’s opinions.
Stop trying to dress like people you don’t even like. If you wear what everyone else is wearing, you’re going to innately look like everyone else and feel less like yourself. Forget other people’s opinions and focus on what YOU like and watch your wardrobe transform.
Start:
Prioritize Self Care.
Yes, your wardrobe counts as self-care too. Keeping your clothes clean and orderly has tremendous health benefits. Give yourself the simple gift of a piece of mind this year by keeping your closet neat and tidy. Not to mention, proper care of your pieces will ensure they last a long time to keep you styling through the seasons.
Invest in Yourself.
Stop limiting the way you invest in yourself. The way you dress has been proven to lead to multiple benefits from job promotions, to raises at work, to mental clarity, to self-confidence & the list goes on. Allow yourself to take the extra time to get ready and find the right outfit each day that’s going to make you feel your best; I promise it’s worth it.
Say No.
Like anything, your wardrobe needs boundaries. Learn to say no to anything that doesn’t serve you. Whether it’s wardrobe clutter you need to relieve from your closet or to the sweater at the store you think is really cute, but just don’t need. It’s okay to let things go and say no, so that an opportunity for something better can present itself to you.
Alternative Shopping.
Are you a shopaholic? If so, let 2025 be the year you try new ways of bringing things into your wardrobe. Instead of buying new for all the things going on this new year, try alternative options like local thrift stores, renting online, shopping friend’s clothes, attending a clothing swap, or participating in your local Facebook buy nothing group.
Be Yourself.
The biggest thing standing in the way of you and your dream wardrobe is yourself. With the way trends have overtaken the fashion industry, we’ve lost touch with our own unique, personal style’s. This year, learn to prioritize you and what you like. Give serious consideration to you and your style to build something that you’re proud of.
