I red a joke about colors once-
& it blue my mind! How the rest of the rainbow in your closet can help create a lasting impression.
So, we’ve learned about how wearing red, blue, yellow, and green relate to emotions. Did you miss it? Find it here.
But what about the rest of the rainbow? Surely, the rest of the rainbow correlates to the body, the mind, and emotions. Last week was focused mainly on the four primary colors; this week we’ll add to the rainbow.
Overall, the biggest distinctions are between warm and cool colors. Warm colors such as red, orange, and yellow can evoke passion, comfort, and anger; and can increase need for speed and alertness. Whereas on the other hand, cool colors such as blue, green, and purple can create a calmer atmosphere and reduce anxious tendencies. Remember: shades & intensities can also influence how you feel.
The rest of the rainbow:
Black
Black is a powerful color that can be worn for everything & anything. The color itself offers power & sophistication. Many times, it provides emotional safety and is often a comfort color for people (me included). Black provides a great balance between power and elegance and can be worn for anything ranging from a wedding to a date, to a workday. Ambitious individuals often wear a lot of black; the color is closely associated with power and intelligence.
Orange
Both stimulating & emotional, orange provides security, sensuality, abundance, an optimistic and cheerful balance of yellow and red. Orange is the color of fun; avoid wearing with black as it gives the opposite effect. Wear orange when you’re feeling ambitious.
White
Visually, white gives a heightened perception of space; it offers a sense of clarity and cleanliness, giving off a certain sophistication and elegance. Despite its stunning effect to keep people at distance, it is worn by all personality types as it is a neutral color. People who reach for white are often organized perfectionists. Wear white when you are striving for simplicity and efficiency.
Pink
Similar to red, pink is associated with femininity & love. It differs as it offers a more nurturing feature, and connotates a softer affection compared to reds fire-y passion. That’s not to say pink, both hot & light, can make a statement when worn right. A neutral pink suit can be professional yet feminine; it’s also a versatile color that can be worn year-round.
Brown
Warmer and softer than black, brown offers a serious, but nurturing feel. Less harsh, it offers more reliability and is closely associated with strength and stability. Wear brown when you are feeling more reserved or conservative. Try playing with different shades of brown to create a monochromatic feel.
