Your clothes say a lot about you. So, it shouldn’t be surprising that when you change your clothes, you change yourself.
Before I started building my capsule wardrobe, I was like anyone else. I knew how to buy cute clothes and wear them once. I struggled to decide what to wear every day, never felt cute in my cute clothes, and felt like I had a whole lot of nothing to wear. I bought on impulse all in the name of a “good deal” but never felt confident in my choices.
Once I made the decision to curate a cohesive, personalized wardrobe, I started to learn a lot about myself and my confidence. I witnessed the physical impact of dressing my best and how when my clothes change, I change.
Looking good goes further than just looking good. Looking good naturally makes you feel good, elevating your confidence and creating a space for more self-awareness.
3 Things I Learned About Myself When I Built a Capsule Wardrobe:
I’m relatively simple as a person & it’s reflected in my style.
When I started getting strategic in my wardrobe and identified what I was trying to get out my style, I began to notice how simple I really was to the core. I didn’t want a flashy wardrobe, I wanted classic, clean, and chic. Once I simplified my closet, my life followed in suit. I started getting savvier in other aspects of my life, seeking ways to simplify it the same way I did my wardrobe. Not only was a dressing better, but my life started feeling better; this is no strange phenomenon, this is a true testimony of how looking good makes you feel good and allows you to show up as your best self.
I used to compromise personal style for lifestyle, and it affected my personal confidence.
Now that I feel confident in my wardrobe and the clothes I wear daily, I look back and realize how often I used to compromise my style for my lifestyle. Since my wardrobe was not in alignment, I was wearing things that didn’t make me look my best and in turn, impacted my personal confidence negatively. Especially in sales, my confidence not only skyrocketed but my sales did as well once I started to wear what I wanted to wear. Now, I have no problem walking into a room of Board of Directors to sell my pitch (even if I am a little confused as to what I’m talking about) because I feel good & feel confident in not only what I’m wearing- but who I am. Hello to personal confidence & goodbye to my identify crisis.
I used to be bad at shopping, despite buying cute clothes.
If there is anything I learned throughout this process so far, is how to shop strategically. A capsule wardrobe isn’t about having one of everything, it’s about having what you need to accurately reflect you as a person in your style. Again, I used to be a sucker for a discount and buy one in every color, not realize how much it was actually hurting me and my wardrobe. Now I consider each purchase and either thrift or pay full price for my clothes, and I’ll tell you what- I’m spending a lot less money now than before. You can buy all the cute clothes you want, but if they’re not in your style queue, you don’t need it.
