#1 Mistake to Avoid in Your Wardrobe
Beginning to build your dream wardrobe? Avoid this #1 mistake clients make.
So, you’ve finally decided… it’s time to build a capsule wardrobe.
If you’re anything like my clients, you’re probably going through a life change or prepping for one to come; and FYI, this is the best time to get started.
We all know how important dressing your best is and what it means for your mental health, professional career, and social circle (it’s all here if you missed it); so, it’s helpful to stay up on your wardrobe as you go through different seasons of your life.
Much like the seasons in your life can change gradually, your wardrobe will also be like this. If you’re serious about building a capsule wardrobe you love, I recommend patience & time. Rome was not built overnight, just like closet contentment can’t be achieved in a day.
The biggest mistake clients make is rushing the journey (implementing their personal style) trying to get to the destination (a complete and finished wardrobe.) This results in missed turns (bad purchases) and later ETA (delayed closet contentment.) The purpose of a capsule wardrobe is to curate it to your unique style; take advantage of this and don’t be afraid to get particular.
Oftentimes, I see clients rushing through auditing their wardrobe and not taking advantage of the opportunity to be picky in their closets. When building your dream wardrobe, not everything is going to fit in your closet, so don’t act like it! The point of this is to minimize the amount you have so you can maximize its potential later on. When both auditing and adjusting your wardrobe, it’s important to learn to say no; no to what doesn’t suit you, your personal style, or your lifestyle.
When getting serious about your wardrobe, it’s okay to be picky. You’re doing this so you will maximize its use and feel your best, so don’t accept anything less. If it doesn’t fit and you haven’t worn it in more than six months, you’re probably not going to start now. If you see it on the rack in the store but can’t think of more than two places you’d ever wear it, it probably is not in your pallete.
Get particular and get picky… your capsule wardrobe depends on it.
